Rumba Seniors into first Murray FL Grand Final

Its been 12 years since the Rumbalara seniors have played off in the Grand Final. That Grand Final was way back in 2002 in the old Central Goulburn Football League. In the first 6 years of the Murray Football League Rumbalara have never moved past the first round of finals.

That all changed on the 6th of September when we faced off against Finley in the 2nd Semi Final at Congupna with the winner going straight into the Grand Final at Moama on the 20th of September.

Finley came into the game high favorites considering Rumbalara finished atop the MFL Ladder after the Home and Away season. The first quarter was a slow start to both teams with the score being 3.4.22 apiece at the first change. The second quarter started and Rumba kicked into gear booting 6.4 to Finleys 1.2. At the main half Rumba lead Finley 9.8.62 to Finleys 4.6.30 holding a comfortable 5 goal lead!

The third quarter got underway and Rumba came out abit flat with Finley firing with the first couple of goals and got right back into the game. To Rumbas credit they got a couple of steady goals to keep a 4 goal lead at 3/4 time, scores at 11.14.80 to Finleys 8.7.55. The fourth quarter was a good hard tussle with both teams scoring but Rumba were able to keep their lead and run out winners despite poor goal kicking 16.19.115 to Finleys 12.10.82!

With all that said Rumbalara are in their first Grand Final in the Murray Football League and their first since 12 years. It has been a great year for new Coach-Player Damian Cupido with hes first year of coaching getting Rumba to the big dance!

Rumba now have to wait to see the result of the Echuca United V Finley game being played tomorrow at Moama Recreation Reserve.
