Firstly, Happy NAIDOC 2016 to everyone! A big week ahead for all communities across Australia, with some events kicking the week off on the weekend and others today, with Flag Raising Ceremonies.
It was another big day at Rumba on Saturday, in our joint event with Congupna Football Netball Club in what was our 10th Unity Cup. Congratulations to both our Senior Football and Netball and teams winning the cup this year. Special mentions to Graham Weston 150 games, Jarrod Atkinson kicking 9 for the day but what about our Beau Jackson – 15! Beau is leading the Reserves goal kicking with 65 goals this season so far. Well done also, to our A Grade girls, who remain undefeated at Round 13!
Again the Walk of Solidarity by the women, through the guard of honour formed by men is a symbolic act of respect and acknowledgement for the many ways that women enrich our families and communities through the many roles they play. Our afternoon tea, remains a unique opportunity for women to gather, enjoy each other’s company as we reflect on the commonalities we share as women.
We have a long list of thank yous, as we rely on many people to volunteer their time and their contribution to make the day a success. Thanks Debbie McColl President Congupna FNC for their continued partnership on this day. Thank you to all the ladies who brought in cakes and slices for afternoon tea – definitely our best yet, we couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you to Jess Bryce Nicholson for helping organize the plates again and a big thank you to Katrina Mohamed for as well as organizing afternoon tea, emceeing the proceedings for speeches and presentation of the Unity Cup. Thank you Aunty Rochelle Patten for smoking ceremony and Aunty Merle Miller for the welcome. Thank you also, to Mayor Dinny Adem and sponsorship towards the day, we appreciate the Greater Shepparton continued support of Unity Cup. Thank you also to Netball Victoria and Netball Australia for your support in attending what is a special event in our season calendar. We hope everyone that came enjoyed the day.
